When you are anxious, small tasks can feel huge because your brain is already using energy to scan for danger.

A message, chore, bill, phone call, or simple decision may not be difficult by itself. But when your nervous system is activated, everything feels like it requires more effort.

Anxiety also makes consequences feel larger. The mind begins to treat small choices as if they could lead to embarrassment, rejection, failure, or loss of control.

This is why avoidance can feel relieving in the moment. It reduces pressure temporarily, even if the task becomes more stressful later.

The way forward is usually not force. It is reducing the size of the task until your body believes it is safe enough to begin.
